They’re all going to laugh at you!
That was one of the famous lines from the movie Carrie.
Although Carrie was a horror film of the late 1970s, we’ve seen elements of its plot in many teen movies where the unpopular kid is asked to the dance or a party, just to be humiliated.
Can you imagine being asked to go somewhere and no one speaks to you, cares if you’re there, or worse, they harass or belittle you?
You see, there’s a difference between being invited and feeling welcomed.
And we see time and time again where workplaces try to recruit [𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘦] people to come [𝘣𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘥] into their organization. However, it’s only to check a box. There isn’t an assessment of whether their environment is indeed welcoming 𝐀𝐍𝐃 accepting of those they try to include.
In other words, do you foster a culture of 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈?
I highly doubt you want any new hire to feel like they have egg on their face or worse – what they did to Carrie.
No one wants to feel like they’re a token or a “diverse hire” 🥴
